Hand Therapy for the Pediatric Patient

Join us as we discuss hand therapy for children and adolescents. Common pediatric diagnoses will be reviewed and we will explore parallels and differences between treating children and adults. Cara will share some tips and tricks for fabricating orthoses on children as well as how to keep them on small fingers and hands. We will also discuss how to engage a child or adolescent to optimize your therapy visit.

Cara Smith

Cara Smith graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center with a Masters of Physical Therapy. She completed the Evelyn J. Mackin Hand Therapy Fellowship in 2010 and became a Certified Hand Therapist in 2013. She earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Arcadia University in 2020. Cara is the Hand Therapy Program Coordinator at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas. The majority of her clinical practice has been in pediatric orthopedics, working alongside orthopedic surgeons in multidisciplinary clinics taking care of children with congenital and acquired conditions, as well as traumatic injuries.
